The high school football season kicked off in earnest this past weekend. While Mother Nature did here best to put a damper on games Friday night, many teams waited out the rain to finish games while others concluded their Week-1 on Saturday. This is our Week- GHSA All Classification Rankings.

Some notable results around the state in particular was Milton holding off Buford by 3. The Eagles who won Class 7-A last year, now find themselves in Class 5-A this season and got off to a great start with a win over the Wolves. Buford is still a good bet to compete for the Class 6-A title this season. Meanwhile Douglas County got off to a hot start with a 42-7 win over Cedar Grove as they move up to the top classification this season. North Gwinnett looked like the are ready to compete for a region title as they downed McEachern 39-17

In Class 5A, Hughes, Gainesville, Thomas County Central, and Coffee all recorded big wins in a very top heavy classification. Meanwhile in 4A, Cartersville and Blessed Trinity recorded shutout victories while Perry, Ware and Cass all won big.

Down in Class 3A, two teams expected to make runs in the state tournament took unexpected tumbles on Friday as Calhoun fell to Class 5A Creekview while Cedar Grove fell to Class 6A Douglasville. Sandy Creek was able to score a big win over Class 6A East Coweta. Class 2A saw Prince Avenue Christian take down Class 6A West Forsyth. We expect the Wolverines to hang around the top of these rankings all regular season.

Class A-Division I saw most of the favorites prevail. Dublin got a big win over rival Swainsboro to open up the season, while Thomasville got a big win over their rival, Brooks County. As we continue the rivalry theme in Class A Division II, it was Irwin County scoring a win over Fitzgerald, while Trion beat Gordon-Lee in the oldest rivalry in the state. Greene County also impressed with a win over Putnam County.
