We are now entering the final third of the high school football regular season. That means that region play continues as the race for playoff berths intensifies. Today we take a look at the Top-10 teams in each classification based on Friday night’s outcomes.
There were no changes in the rankings for Class 7A and 6A is several teams were off and the ranked teams that did play all won. In 5A, Hiram drops from the rankings after a 21 point loss to Calhoun. Jones County is back in the rankings this week after a big win over Ola. In Class 4A, Benedictine outlasted Burke County on Friday in a battle of ranked teams. Burke drops one spot to No. 8 while Westminster falls from the rankings. The Central-Carroll Lions are in at No. 10 as they make their first appearance in the rankings this season.
Over in Class 3A, things got interesting in Region 1, as Crisp County fell to Monroe and Thomasville lost to Carver-Columbus. Carver is now in control of their own destiny with a matchup with Crisp looming for a potential region title. As a result of those games. Crisp and Thomasville drop from the rankings. They are replaced this week by Carver (No. 9) and Adairsville (No. 10). Class 2A got a little more interesting as Toombs County upset Appling County. The loss moves Toombs up one spot and Appling falls to No. 10.
There were not may surprises in Class A-Division I. Bleckley County won a Top-10 matchup and a big region game as they defeated Dublin. The win moves the Royals to No. 7 while Dublin falls to No. 9. Brooks County fell to Cook this week and drops out of the Top-10. They are replaced by Bryan County who got a big win over Metter. Finally in Class A-Division II, the Top-9 remained unchanged. However, Telfair County upset Wilcox County. That win propels Telfair into the rankings at No. 10 this week.
