We move on to the second round of the A-Private GHSA Football Playoffs. This preview features matchups between Athens Academy-Brookstone, ELCA-Prince Avenue Christian, Holy Innocents-St. Francis and Darlington-Mt. Paran. Please let us know if there are any errors. The Skinny

 

The Athens Academy Spartans claimed the Region 8 Class A title for the third straight season. They Spartans are in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. The Spartans are averaging 42.8 points per game while the defense is allowing 7.1 points per game. They have held all of their opponents to 21 points or less this season, including four shutouts.

 

The Brookstone Cougars are back in the playoffs for the  second consecutive season. The Cougars win last week stopped  a two game skid coming into the playoffs. The Cougars are averaging 24.4 points per game while the defense is allowing 22.5 points per game. They have defeated three playoff teams on the season. We believe the Spartans will be too much to handle this week. We like Athens Academy by four touchdowns.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The ELCA Chargers are the four time defending state champion. Earlier this season, ELCA suffered their first region loss since September 4, 2009. The Chargers have bounced back to win six straight games and allow only 30 points during that stretch. The Chargers defense has shutout three of their last opponents. ELCA has defeated five playoff teams this season. Keaton Mitchell has rushed for 1,340 yards and 33-TDs on the season to help lead the Chargers offense that is averaging 55.2 points per game.

 

The Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines are in the second round of the playoffs for the ninth straight season. The Wolverines have advanced to the semifinals in each of the four previous seasons. The Wolverines have won their last five games, including two straight shutouts. The Wolverines have defeated four playoff teams this season. Quarterback Brock Vandagriff has passed for 1,946 yards and 25-TDs and Landon Owens has rushed for 904 yards and 10-TDs to help pace Prince Avenue. This game could turn into a shootout. We like the Chargers to pull away late. ELCA by 10.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

The Holy Innocents Bears are having a special season. They knocked of ELCA earlier this season and are in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Bears are averaging 40.1 points per game while the defense is allowing only 9.7 points per game. Holy Innocents has shutout five of their opponents this season and have defeated five playoff teams. They are powered on offense by senior running back Michael Cox and quarterback Matt Davis.

 

The St. Francis Knights defeated Trinity Christian to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in school history. The Knights are winners of four out of their last five games. The Knights are undefeated when they score 34 points or more. Quarterback Josh Gil has passed for 2,027 yards and 19-TDs on the season. Kylan Smith and Hunter Jones have combined to rush for 1,126 yards and 12-TDs. We believe Michael Cox will be too tough to contain this week. We like Holy Innocents by three touchdowns.

The Darlington Tigers are in the second round for the fourth straight season. The Tigers had won nine straight games before falling to Fellowship Christian in the region title game. The Tigers are averaging 32.5 points per game while the defense is allowing 11.7 points per game. The Tigers have defeated seven playoff teams this season.

 

The Mt. Paran Christian Eagles are in the second round of the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years. The Eagles are averaging 30.1 points per game but allowing 22.5 points per game. They have defeated two playoff teams this season. We like Darlington at home to keep the Eagles in check. Tigers by 17.

A-Private GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 1

This preview features matchups between Fellowship-Christian, Mount De Sales-Hebron Christian, Savannah Country Day-Savannah Christian and Christian Heritage-Wesleyan. The Fellowship Christian Paladins are in the second round for the fourth straight season. The Paladins claimed the Region-6 Class-A title last week by defeating Darlington. Fellowship Christian is averaging 45.7 points per game while the defense is allowing 11.5 points per game. They have defeated five playoff teams this season. Murphy Reeves paces the Paladins with 1,366 yards rushing and 15-TDs. As a team, Fellowship Christian has rushed for over 3,500 yards this season.

 

The North Cobb Christian Eagles are in the second round of the playoffs for the second year in a row, which also happens to be the second time in school history. The Eagles are averaging 24.2 points per game while the defense is allowing 12.2 points per game. North Cobb Christian has defeated three playoff teams this season. We believe the Fellowship Christian ground game will be too tough to contain this week. We like the Paladins by 20 this week.

The Mount de Sales Cavaliers won their first region title since 1997 and are also in the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2010. The Cavaliers are averaging 35.4 points per game while the defense is allowing 11.9 points per game. They’ve also defeated three playoff teams this season.

 

The Hebron Christian Lions advanced to the second round for the second consecutive year and the second time in school history. The Lions are averaging 27.2 points per game while the defense is allowing 22.1 points per game. Hebron Christian is led be quarterback Colton Gauthier who’s passed for 1,945 yards and 15-TDs. Daniel Moorer (44 receptions, 893 yards, 8-TDs) and Justin Peavy (39 receptions, 522 yards, 2-TDs) lead the Lions receiving corps. Hebron Christian has defeated three playoff teams this season. We like the Lions in an upset this week on the road. Hebron Christian by 6.

The Savannah Country Day Hornets won their first region title since 1980. The Hornets are averaging 35 points per game while the defense is allowing 18.5 points per game. Quarterback Barry Kleinpeter has passed for 1,934 yards and 22-TDs and Davion Smith has rushed for 1,000 yards and 14-TDs. The Hornets have defeated six playoff teams this season.

 

The Savannah Christian Raiders are in the second round of the playoffs for the 13th time in 14 years. The Raiders have won their last three games and six of their last seven. Quarterback Spencer Robicheaux has passed for 1,285 yards and 8-TDs while Markel Brown has rushed for 1,082 yards and 12-TDs. Savannah Christian has defeated three playoff teams on the season. Country Day won the first tilt, we like them again this week by 9.

The Christian Heritage Lions are in the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2015 and for the second time in school history. The Lions are averaging 29.4 points per game while the defense is allowing 9.6 points per game. Quarterback Christian Thomas has passed for 1,310 yards and 15-TDs and Gage Leonard has rushed for 864 yards and 9-TDs. Evan Lester leads the team in receiving with 35 receptions for 701 yards and 10-TDs. The aforementioned Leonard also leads the team in total tackles and sacks.

 

The Wesleyan Wolves beat First Presbyterian last week to advance to the second round for the fifth consecutive season. Wesleyan has won five straight games coming into this week. They have defeated five playoff teams this season. They are led by sophomore quarterback J.C. French who’s passed for 2,067 and 26-TDs. French’s top two receivers are Micah Smith (51 receptions, 759 yards, 12-TDs) and Cooper Blauser (51 receptions, 698 yards, 5-TDs). This should be a great duel between two young quarterbacks. We like  Christian Heritage at home by a Joe Dixon field goal.

A-Public GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 2

The Mitchell County Eagles are in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. Mitchell County is averaging 50.8 points per game while the defense is allowing only 12 points per game. The Eagles have now won nine consecutive games. They are led on offense by quarterback Quentavious Hunter, who has passed for 1,466 yards and 25-TDs. Hunter has also added 354 yards and 6-TDs on the ground. The Eagles have defeated four playoff teams this season.

 

The Turner County Rebels are in the second round of the playoffs for the second time in four seasons. The Rebels are averaging 21 points per game while the defense is allowing 23 points per game. Turner County has defeated two playoff teams this season. We like Mitchell County this week by three touchdowns at home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Pelham Hornets are in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth straight seasons. The Hornets are averaging 52.8 points per game while the defense is allowing only 5.4 points per game. 36 of those points came in the last game of the season against their rival, Mitchell County. The Hornets have defeated five playoffs team. Quarterback Kendrick Patterson has passed for 1,383 yards, rushed for 358 yards and accounted for 30 total TDs.

 

The Wilcox County Patriots advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2012. The Patriots have won their last three games. This season, they average 35.4 points per game, while the defense is allowing 10.5 points per game. The Patriots have defeated two playoff teams this season. We believe that this is the best matchup in Class A and probably the most underrated game in the state this weekend. Wilcox has played tough against the best A-public has to offer, but we think Pelham edges the  Patriots at home by 2.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Marion County Eagles have advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the ninth time in eleven seasons. The Eagles have won five consecutive games coming into this week. They are averaging 34.5 points per game while the defense is allowing 17 points per game. Quarterback Trice McCannon has passed for 1,681 yards and rushed for 681 yards and accounted for 37 total TDs. Brandon Thomas leads the team in rushing with 762 yards on the season and 5-TDs. Linebackers Kendrick Hawkins and Dayterious Chinn have combined for 202 total tackles this season.

 

The Schley County Wildcats will be making their second visit to Buena Vista this season. The Wildcats have won three of their last four games. They are in the second round of the playoffs for the third straight season. The Wildcats are led on offense by running backs Trent Bevins (1,006 yards, 14-TDs) and Zamon Ross (821 yards, 9-TDs).  We expect this game to be a little closer than the 14-0 victory by Marion County, but we like the Eagles to prevail again…Marion County by 6.

The Lincoln County Red Devils are in the second round of the playoffs for the third time in four years. The Red Devils are winners of their last six games and have defeated two playoff teams this season. Kolbi Ferguson, who’s rushed for 1,189 yards and 26-TDs this season, leads Lincoln County on offense.

 

The Commerce Tigers are back into the second round of the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Commerce has won four straight games coming into this week. They are averaging 37.4 points per game and allowing 16.2 points per game. The Tigers have defeated two playoff teams this season. The Tigers should keep this game close all night, but we like Lincoln County by a touchdown this week.

A-Public GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 1

The Skinny

 

The Clinch County Panthers are the two time defending Class-A Public champions. The Panthers have advanced to the second round for six out of the last seven years. They’ve also won three state titles during that time span. The Panthers are averaging 35.8 points per game while surrendering 14.5 points per game. Clinch has won six consecutive games and has beaten four playoff teams this season.

 

The ECI Bulldogs have advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season. The Bulldogs have won four of their last five games. ECI is averaging 28.4 points per game while their defense is allowing 21.2 points per game. We like for Clinch to roll at home. Panthers by 17.

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Bowdon Red Devils are into the second round of the playoffs for the first time in four years. The Red Devils got off to a fast start before getting derailed by Christian Heritage and Darlington. The Red Devils have since gotten back on track with two consecutive wins to close out the regular season. Bowdon is averaging 19.2 points per game, while the defense is allowing 14.7 points per game.  They have defeated four playoff teams this season.

 

The Warren County Screaming Devils are into the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2007. This year also marks the first time Warren County has been in the playoffs since 2010. The Screaming Devils have defeated two playoff teams this season. The Devils are led by a trio of backs, Dairon Jones (762 yards, 13-TDs), Travis Moss (606 yards, 8-TDs) and A.J. Stanford (582 yards, 7-TDs). These backs have helped pace Warren County to over 2,700 yards rushing as a team. Bowdon has not lost at home this season. This game should be close. We like the Red Devils by 3.

The Irwin County Indians are in the second round of the playoffs for the seventh straight season. The Indians have advanced to the Finals four out of the previous five seasons. In 9 games this season, the Indians have given up 22 total points. That’s 2.4 points per game. Irwin has shutout their last five opponents. The Indians have defeated four playoff teams on the season. They may also have the most dynamic backfield with players like D.J. Lundy, Gabriel Benyard, Kam Ward and Garland Benyard, the Indians have been difficult to corral.

 

The Chattahoochee County Panthers scored a mild upset over Washington-Wilkes last week. The win puts the Panthers into the second round of the playoffs for the second year in a row. Chattahoochee County has now won three games in a row. They’ve allowed a total of 7 points in their last three games. They are averaging 21 points per game on offense and allowing 18.9 points per game. The Panthers will fight, but Irwin County has too many weapons this week. We like the Indians by five touchdowns.

The Johnson County Trojans are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2015. That year, the Trojans made a run to the quarterfinals. The Trojans are averaging 36.4 points per game on offense while the defense is allowing 17.2 points per game. The Trojans only two defeats this season were to Savannah Country Day by a combined 8 points in the team’s two meetings. The Trojans have defeated two playoff teams this season.

 

The Manchester Blue Devils shutout Taylor County last week to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. Manchester is averaging 34.4 points per game on offense while the defense is allowing 15.9 points per game. The Blue Devils have defeated four playoff teams this season. Both teams look evenly matched this week. We like Manchester to win on the road in a tightly contested game. Blue Devils by 5.

2A GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 2

We move on to the second round of the 2A GHSA Football Playoffs. Last week, all of the #1 seeds advanced to the second round. Region 1 and Region 2 advanced 3 teams into the second round. The Dublin Fighting Irish were upset the last week of the season, but bounced back to defeat Early County Friday night. The Irish are in the second round of the playoffs for the third straight season. Dublin has been involved in some high scoring games this year. They’ve reached the 70-point mark three times this season and are averaging 46.9 points per game. Dublin is 6-1 against playoff teams this season.

 

The Bremen Blue Devils are in the third round of the playoffs for the third time in four years. The Blue Devils have won their last six games and earned their fourth shutout of the season. Bremen has defeated four playoff teams this season.  The Blue Devils also gave Callaway a scare earlier this season. We believe the Bremen defense will keep them in the game, but we think the Dublin ground game will prevail. We like the Irish by 15.

The Hapeville Charter Hornets are making their fourth straight playoff appearance. Hapeville earned their fourth shutout of the season last week. The Hornets are only allowing 8.2 points per game this season. They are 5-1-1 against playoff teams and the loss and the tie came by teams who are in a higher classification.

 

The Swainsboro Tigers downed Harlem on the road last week and will travel to Atlanta this Friday. The Tigers stopped a two game skid to end the regular season and are in the second round for the second year in a row. In all of Swainsboro’s wins, they’ve held the opposition to 14 points or less. We believe that All-Region Player of the Year Kade Youmans and the Seabrough brothers give the Tigers a fighting chance, but we expect Hapeville to prevail. We like the Hornets by three touchdowns.

The Thomasville Bulldogs held off Dodge County last week to advance to the second round for the third straight season. Thomasville has now won five consecutive games. They’ve also defeated five playoff teams on the season.

 

The Pepperell Dragons are back in the second round for the third time in four years. The Dragons have now won four straight games. The Dragons are 5-2 against playoff teams this season. The Dragons have one of the best young quarterbacks (Gage Moses) in Northwest Georgia, but we like Thomasville and their quarterback Ronnie Baker to prevail at home this week in a nail biter…Bulldogs by three.

The Rabun County Wildcats are in the second round for the sixth straight season. The Wildcats earned their second shutout of the season and are now 6-0 against playoff teams. The Wildcats have not scored less than 34 points in a game this season. The 38 they scored last week ties their second “lowest” production in a game this season.

 

The Toombs County Bulldogs are in the second round for the second time in three years. Last week they held off Hephzibah to advance. The 34 points that Hephzibah scored are the most that Toombs has allowed all season. The Bulldogs have now won three straight and five out of their last six games. We believe Gunner Stockton and the Wildcats will be too tough to handle at home. We like the Rabun County by 20.

2A GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 1

We move on to the second round of the 2A GHSA Football Playoffs. Last week, all of the #1 seeds advanced to the second round. Region 1 and Region 2 advanced 3 teams each to play this Friday. This preview features matchups between Jefferson County-Douglass, Callaway-Fitzgerald, Metter-Union County and Rockmart-Brooks County. Please let us know if there are any errors. The Jefferson County Warriors held Vidalia in check last week to advance to the second round for the seventh consecutive season. Jefferson County has now won nine straight games. The Warriors are 4-2 against playoff teams this season. Last week was the first time the Warriors were held to 20 points since August.

 

The Douglass Astros are in the second round for the third time in four years. The Astros have won five consecutive games and their only loss was to Hapeville Charter. Douglass has now scored 40+ points in seven of their games this season. The Astros are now 3-1 against playoff teams this season. We like the Warriors to outlast the Astros this week. Jefferson County by 7.

The Rockmart Yellow Jackets began their quest to get back to the state title game by defeating Temple last week. The Yellow Jackets have advanced to the second round for the past four seasons. Rockmart was held to their lowest point output all season last week, but they still have not allowed more than 17 points in a game this season. Rockmart has defeated six playoff teams this year.

 

The Brooks County Trojans ran past Washington County last week to advance to the second round for the 12th consecutive season. The Trojans have now defeated four playoff teams on the year. We like the Trojans to keep this game competitive and expect them to be the toughest opponent Rockmart has faced to date. But we like the Yellow Jackets by a touchdown at home this week.

The Metter Tigers advanced to the second round on the playoffs for the first time since 2003. The Tigers have also won ten games for the first time since 2003. Metter got past Screven County last week for their fifth straight win. They’ve now defeated four playoff teams on the season.

 

The Union County Panthers outlasted South Atlanta last week to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1973. Union County has won 10 games for the first time in school history. The Panthers are 4-1 against playoff teams this season. We expect this game to be close as well. But we like Union County’s air raid to edge the Tigers. Union County by 4.

The Callaway Cavaliers won their tenth straight game last Friday and advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the 8th consecutive season. Outside of their shootout with county rival Troup, the Cavaliers have not surrendered more than 14 points in a game. Since that Troup game, they’ve only surrendered 34 total points. (That’s a stretch of seven games.)

 

The Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes come calling after their victory over Bleckley County. The Hurricanes are in the second round of the playoffs for the 17th  time in 18 seasons. Fitzgerald is 1-3 when they are held to 24 points or less this season. They have defeated four playoff teams this season. We like Callaway this week by two touchdowns

3A GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 1

The Cedar Grove Saints are in the second round of the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. The Saints are the defending 3A champions. Cedar Grove has won seven straight games and has not given up more than 17 points in a game during that stretch, which also includes four shutouts. The Saints have defeated five playoff teams this season. Cedar Grove is the only team from Region 5 remaining in the playoffs.

 

The Benedictine Cadets bounced back from their season finale loss to advance to the second round for the eighth year in a row. The Cadets have now shut out four opponents on the season. The Cadets are 7-1 when scoring 30+ points in a game this year. This is a rematch of a quarterfinal game from a year ago. We believe the Cadets will get on the board this week against Cedar Grove, but we like the Saints by 16.

The Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the eighth straight season. The Spartans have now won 10 in a row after their season opening loss to Lovett. The Spartans have defeated six playoff teams this season. They have scored 30+ points in eight of their games.

 

The Cook Hornets held off Windsor Forest to advance to the second round for the second time in three years. The win was the second for Cook over a playoff team this season. The Hornets have won three of their last four games. We like GAC this week, too many weapons. Spartans by three touchdowns.

The Pierce County Bears advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the seventh time in eight years. Pierce is undefeated on the season and has a defense that has allowed only 9.9 points per game. The Bears have scored over 40 points in nine of their games this season. They have defeated six playoff teams this season.

 

The Hart County Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Bulldogs have now won four straight games. They’ve also defeated five playoff teams on the season. The Bulldogs are undefeated when scoring 26+ points in games this season. While Hart County might score 26 this week, we still like Pierce County by 4.

The Peach County Trojans have reached the second round of the state playoffs for the fifth consecutive time. Since 1991, they have been to at least the second round in all but seven seasons. The Trojans only loss was a 1-point setback to Houston County back in mid-September. Peach has defeated six playoff teams this season. Last week against Brantley County, Peach was held to their lowest point production of the season.

 

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets advanced to the second round for the 19th consecutive season. Calhoun has now won seven straight games. The Yellow Jackets have not given up more than 14 points in a game during this win streak. Calhoun has now defeated five playoff teams this season. This game is a rematch of a 2018 semifinal game. Calhoun probably has revenge on the mind, but we like Peach to prevail. Trojans by 7.

3A GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 2

We move on to the second round of the 3A GHSA Football Playoffs. Last week, all of the #1 seeds advanced to the second round. Region 7 advanced 3 teams into the second round. The Skinny

 

The Jenkins Warriors are back in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth straight season. (Jenkins made it to the quarterfinals the past two seasons.) Jenkins ha now won 9 straight games and their only loss was a three point setback to Class 5A South Effingham. The Warriors picked up their fourth shutout of the season and since their loss back in August, have only surrendered 35 total points. The defense is only allowing 6.9 points per game.

 

The Dawson County Tigers are in the second round of the playoffs for the forth time in five years. The Tigers have won three of their last four games this. Dawson County has now defeated two playoff teams this season. We believe the Tigers will be a tough out, but like Jenkins by 10 this week.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The North Murray Mountaineers have advanced to the second round for the second time in school history. North Murray has now won a program best 10 games in a season. The Mountaineers have not lost since their opening week defeat at the hands of Rabun County. The Mountaineers have not lost when they score 24 points or more this season.

 

The Jackson Red Devils are in the second round of the playoffs for the fourth time in five years. The Red Devils are winners of six of their last seven games coming into Friday night’s matchup. Jackson has defeated three playoff teams this season. We believe North Murray will be victorious. We like the Mountaineers by 6 at home.

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Crisp County Cougars have advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the third time in four years. The Cougars have now won their last five games and have only allowed opposing teams 27 points during that stretch. Crisp has now shut out two opponents on the year. The Cougars three losses have come to teams in Class 4A and 5A by a combined 10 points. They have defeated five playoff teams this season.

 

The North Hall Trojans are in the second round of the playoffs for the second consecutive season. North Hall has now won five consecutive games. The Trojans have now defeated three playoff teams. Both of North Hall’s last two wins have come by 3-point margins. The Trojans will be looking to get the run game established again this week. We believe Crisp will keep them in check Friday night. We like the Cougars by 10 at home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Jefferson Dragons move on to the second round for the seventh time in eight years. The Dragons have won nine straight since their Week-1 loss to Oconee County. Jefferson has scored 30+ points in seven of their games this season. The Dragons are now 5-1 against playoff teams this season.

 

The Appling County Pirates advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Pirates have won their second straight game and have won five of their last six. Appling is 6-2 against playoff teams this season. The biggest question in this matchup will be whether either defense can slow down the opposing ground games. If it becomes a shootout, we like Jefferson. We don’t think it will, but we like Colby Clark and the Dragons anyway by 9 at home.

4A GHSA Playoffs Previews Round 2 Part 2

We move on to the second round of the 4A GHSA Football Playoffs. Last week, Americus-Sumter and Madison County scored the biggest upset in round one as they beat #1 seeds Burke County and Ridgeland. Region 8 advanced 4 teams into the second round. This preview features matchups between Sandy Creek-Americus Sumter, Mary Persons-Madison County, Carver Columbus-Marist and Oconee County-Perry. The Skinny

 

The Sandy Creek Patriots are in the second round for the first time since 2016. The Patriots are winners of their last four games. They have been held to under 30 points only once this season. The Patriots have score over 40 points in six of their last seven games. They’ve now defeated six playoff teams this season.

 

The Americus-Sumter Panthers went on the road and upset No. 1 seed Burke County last week to advance to the second round for the second time in three years and only the third time in program history. The win over Burke County was the Panthers first over a playoff team this season. We believe Sandy Creek’s offense will be too much for the Panthers this week. Patriots by 21.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Mary Persons Bulldogs went on the road and got a big win against Eastside. The Bulldogs advanced to the second round for the ninth consecutive season. Mary Persons has now won two straight games. Mary Persons is undefeated when scoring more than 28 points per game. The Bulldogs have defeated three playoff teams.

 

The Madison County Red Raiders shocked the No.1 seed Ridgeland Panthers last week to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in school history. Coming into last week’s game, the Red Raiders had lost four out of five games, but they were able to get a big win. Last week’s victory was the first for Madison County against a playoff team this season. We believe Mary Persons is more battle tested. We like the Bulldogs by 10.

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Carver Columbus Tigers advanced to the second round for the second time in four years. Carver has now won 10 games for the first time since 2013. The Tigers only loss came in week one to 5A Harris County. Since then, the Carver offense has not scored less than 34 points in a game. The Tigers are 4-1 against playoff teams this season.

 

The Marist War Eagles are in the second round of the playoffs for the third year in a row. Last week, Marist got back on track as Connor Cigelske scored six times to lead the way over a scrappy Cedartown team. Marist is 6-1 against playoff teams this season. Can Marist’s ground game neutralize Carver’s explosive offense? We think so. We like the Ware Eagles by a touchdown.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Oconee County Warriors advanced to the second round for the first time since 2015. The Warriors have now won 9 consecutive games. During that stretch, they have not allowed more than 14 points in a game. Oconee County has defeated eight playoff teams this season.

 

The Perry Panthers are in the second round for the first time since 2007. Perry enters this week winners of five of their last six games. The Panthers earned their second shutout of the season. Perry has now defeated four playoff teams this season. We like Max Johnson and the Warriors this week. Oconee County by 14.

The Blessed Trinity Titans are in the second round of the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season. The Titans are the defending back-to-back state champions. Last week’s win pushes their current win streak to 8 games. Blessed Trinity has defeated seven of the eight playoff teams they’ve faced this season.

 

The Baldwin Braves are in the second round of the playoffs for the third straight season. Baldwin has now won three straight and five of their last six coming into this week’s game. The Braves have beaten four playoff teams this seasons. They are undefeated when scoring 35+ points this season and 0-6 when scoring 28 points or less. Blessed Trinity is looking primed for another deep run in the state playoffs. We believe their defense will step up against Baldwin. We like the Titans by 21.

The West Laurens Raiders got a big win over Luella last week putting them into the second round for the fifth time in six years. West Laurens has now won seven consecutive games. Since their loss back on September 20th, they’ve allowed a total of 35 points over those seven games. The Raiders have now defeated seven playoff teams on the year.

 

The North Oconee Titans got back into the win column last week. The Titans had won nine straight before losing their season finale. Now the Titans have advanced to the second round for the second consecutive year. They are undefeated when they scored 23 points or more this season. North Oconee has defeated six playoff teams this season. We like West Laurens at home this week by a touchdown.

 

 

 

 

 

The Skinny

 

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes are in the second round of the playoffs for the eight consecutive season. They are 11-0 for the fifth consecutive season. The Canes were held to a season low 14 points against Flowery Branch. Cartersville has now defeated seven playoff teams this season.

 

The Thomson Bulldogs are in the second round of the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season. Thomson recorded their fourth shutout of the season. The Bulldogs have won four of their last five games. The Bulldogs have defeated three playoff teams this season. We expect Thompson to put up a good fight, but we like Cartersville to get back on track this week. Canes by 13.

The Woodward Academy War Eagles advanced to the second round for the 11th  time in 12 seasons. The War Eagles have scored 40 or more points in their last 8 games. Woodward has only allowed opponents 83 points all season. The War Eagles have defeated six playoff teams this season.

 

The St. Pius X Lions are in the second round for the 12th  time in 14 seasons. The Lions have now won three consecutive games. This is also the second consecutive week that the Lions have scored 42 points in a game. In the Lions five defeats, they were held to 14 points or less in those games. St. Pius has defeated four playoff teams. St. Pius cannot be taken lightly this week. We like Woodward by 11.
