We are approaching crunch time across the state of Georgia when it comes to region play. As we have come to know, there are always a few upsets each week, and this week was no different. Perhaps the biggest upset was Jones County beating Dutchtown. Other notable upsets were Cambridge defeating Kell and Carver Columbus defeating Crisp County. As we look at each classification, there were no changes in the rankings in Class 6A, 4A and 2A.

Class 7A saw Buford win one of the biggest games of the state this season, as they defeated region foe Mill Creek. As a result of the loss, Mill Creek drops to No. 6. Meanwhile, Walton got a big region win over Kennesaw Mountain. Walton is up to No. 8 this week, while Kennesaw Mountain falls out of the poll. Parkview is back in the Top-10 at No. 10 this week.

There is a new No. 1 in our Class 5A rankings as Ware County lays claim to the No.1 spot. Previous No. 1 Dutchtown was upended by Jones County. The loss drops the Bulldogs down to No. 9. Cambridge also got a big win this week knocking off region rival Kell. The win catapults Cambridge into the rankings for the first time this season at No. 4, while Kell drops from the rankings. The remainder of the poll remains unchanged.

In Class 3A, Sandy Creek defeated Carver-Atlanta in a battle of Top-10 teams. Sandy Creek remains at No. 3 while Carver-Atlanta drops to No. 7. We mentioned earlier that Carver-Columbus defeated previously ranked Crisp County. With the loss Crisp drops from the Top-10 with Carver Columbus replacing them in the rankings at No.10.

In Class A Division-I, Elbert County dropped their region opener to Rabun County. The loss drops Elbert County to No. 10. All of the other teams in the classification were winners.

Finally, in Class A Division-II, the Early County Bobcats lost a big matchup with Brooks County on Friday night. Even with the loss, Early County remains at No. 1 this week. Aquinis dropped a region game this week to Lincoln County. That loss drops Aquinas out of the Top-10. That makes room for Emmanuel County Institute (ECI) to find their way back int o the Top-10.
