Georgia High School Football Region Outlooks – AAAA

The start of the football season is less than three weeks away for many schools. As promised in my first blog entry, here are my region outlooks for GHSA class AAAA. As mentioned in previous days, I am sure that there are some worthy players that may have been omitted from my top players category.  This will not be the first time I make a mistake or oversight… (consult my family for confirmation of that statement.)

Please let me know if I have mislabeled players or their teams. I appreciate all comments and any criticism.  While we may disagree on where your school will finish this season, I think we can all agree that August 18th can’t come soon enough!!

First and Ten

Every summer in Georgia, high school football fans experiance a lull, it seems to happen right after the NBA finals and the baseball All-Star game. It’s almost as if we can smell the freshly cut grass, hear the roar of the crowd. Taste the smell of burgers or our favorite concession food. We can envision the bright lights, our favorite PA announcer. We hear the band…yet, it was only mid-July and the first games are still 6 to 8 weeks away.

High School football, especially here in Georgia, has become one of my favorite pastimes. Since moving to Georgia in 2006 I have had the privilege to take in some great battles on the grid-iron… Tucker vs Marist, Valdosta vs McEachern, Colquitt vs Grayson, Tucker vs Gainesville just to name a few. But I’ve longed to also express my opinions about the sport that I have grown to love. There are some great outlets for information, and my goal here is not to compete with them. (I am an avid fan of Georgia High School Football Daily, and would recommend their site to any high school football fan in Georgia.) Those guys do a great job. And yes, if you’re in Cherokee County where I reside, the guys at Cedarwood Tavern do a phenomenal job of giving exposure to the 6 county teams, complete with a pre and post game live show. Yet I wanted to express my unqualified  opinion in a forum that might allow me to interact with Georgia high school football fans all over the state.

So with that in mind, I’ve set up a blog for starters, with some goals of course. Here’s what you can expect…

  1. My predictions for the upcoming season, class by class;
  2. A weekly release of recaps, particularly any outstanding performances or obscure facts;
  3. A weekly podcast to accompany the blog release;
  4. My post season predictions.

And to manage the expectation, here’s what you won’t get…

  1. In depth coverage of every team from every corner of the state (I’m one person, with a full-time job and a family);
  2. Fool proof polls. Polls are fun, I may do one for fun, but we know of utmost importance is to make it to the post season and win it on the field. Polls don’t mean a thing.
  3. Error-free reporting. I’m human, I’ll misspell names, but my goal is to give maximum exposure to some of the great performances in the state.

So with that said, I’m excited to launch the Turd Ferguson report. Ready… Break!
