The Skinny

The Spartans

The Athens Academy Spartans held off a late charge from region rival Prince Avenue Christian to advance to the state title game for the second consecutive season. Len’Neth Whitehead scored 3 touchdowns to lead the charge for the Spartans. Athens Academy is averaging 31.3 points per game on offense this season, while their defense is allowing 15.8 points per game. In the playoffs, the Spartans are averaging 26.6 points per game while their defense has allowed 17.6 points per game.

The Chargers

Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy or ELCA as they are better known as, will be playing for their 4th consecutive state title and will face a familiar foe in Athens Christian. ELCA beat Savannah Christian 70-21 last week. The Chargers are in search of their 6th title overall. The Chargers are averaging over 480 yards of total offense per game. Running back Keaton Mitchell has rushed for 2,336 yards and 47-TDs, while dual threat quarterback Brayden Rush has passed for 1,477 yards and rushed for 648 and has accounted for 34 total TDs. Justin Robinson and Devin Dorsey have combined for 60 receptions and 1,208 receiving yards and 19 receiving TDs. The offense is averaging 53.3 points per game while the defense is allowing 7.9 points per game. In the playoffs, the Chargers are allowing 13.6 points per game while their offense is right at the season average of 53.3 points per game.

Final Thoughts

It’s tough to pick against the Chargers and their high-powered offense. Athens Academy certainly does have an offense that might be able to keep the Chargers offense on the sidelines…Long, sustained drives by the Spartans might be their best defense against ELCA. We just don’t think that will be enough. We think the Chargers win it by no less than two touchdowns.
