Georgia High School Football Rankings – Week-9: Week of Upsets Shakes Up Several Classes

Friday night brought plenty of drama across Georgia high school football, with several key matchups reshaping the rankings in Class 7A and Class A. Brookwood bounced back in a big way, North Paulding continued its dominance in Region 5-7A, and Charlton County made one of the biggest jumps of the week. Meanwhile, Thomasville survived a late challenge from Fitzgerald, and Holy Innocents’ continued its strong run against ranked competition. While several classifications saw little movement, the latest results proved that one big win—or an unexpected loss—can quickly change the landscape. Here’s a closer look at the biggest movers, notable results, and teams making their mark in this week’s Georgia high school football Top 10 rankings.

7A

Class 7A saw a couple of upsets Friday night that shook up the Top 10. Brookwood bounced back in a big way, dominating North Gwinnett. The Broncos climb two spots, moving from No. 10 to No. 8, while North Gwinnett tumbles from No. 3 to No. 9. Meanwhile, the North Paulding Wolfpack continued their mastery of Region 5-7A with a big win over North Cobb. North Cobb falls out of the Top 10, making room for North Paulding to enter the rankings at No. 10.

6A

With only 60 percent of the teams in Class 6A taking the field this week and the others holding serve, there were no changes in the rankings.

5A

The Central-Carroll Lions fell to the LaGrange Grangers in the only upset involving our Top 10 teams in Class 5A. Central-Carroll drops out of the rankings, while LaGrange returns to the Top 10 at No. 10.

4A

There were no changes in the Class 4A rankings this week.

3A

The Class 3A rankings also remained unchanged, as all teams in action held serve.

2A

Continuing the theme of the week, there were no changes in the Class 2A Top 10. However, the classification featured a Top 10 showdown as the No. 4 Thomasville Bulldogs held off the No. 5 Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes, 24-21. Given how closely matched these teams were, neither team changes position in this week’s poll.

A

Class A saw some significant movement and may have been the toughest classification to rank this week. Charlton County made the biggest jump, climbing from No. 9 to No. 4. Macon County remains at No. 5 despite its loss to Schley County, staying ahead of Taylor County, which Macon edged out last week. Meanwhile, Clinch County was upset by Mitchell County and falls to No. 9. Johnson County, Lincoln County, and Bowdon remain in the top three spots, respectively.

PRIVATE

In Class A Private, Holy Innocents’ continued to make a statement by knocking off another Top 10 opponent, defeating Wesleyan. Lovett also moved up two spots to No. 5 after its win over North Cobb Christian, which drops to No. 10. Meanwhile, Aquinas makes its first appearance in the rankings, bursting onto the scene at No. 8.
